Your First Session

What to expect when you come to art therapy

There’s a quiet kind of courage in starting something new. If you're feeling unsure, curious, hopeful (or all of the above), you’re in good company. This page is here to offer a glimpse into what your first session might be like, so things feel a little less unknown. You won’t be asked to open up before you're ready. It’s simply a chance to pause, explore, and begin - at your own pace, in a way that feels safe for you.

Session Time

Unrushed, open-ended, at your pace

Your first session is around 90 minutes long. This gives us time to land gently, get to know each other, and begin without a hurry. There’s no fixed structure - just space to start wherever you need to, with support along the way.

Materials

Explore the process, in your own way

You’ll have access to a variety of materials - paint, pencils, collage, clay, and more. There’s no need to bring anything, but if you have a favourite medium or something personal you’d like to work with, you’re welcome to bring it along.

We’ll start with a casual check-in and follow your lead from there. If it feels right, I may offer a creative invitation, but there’s no pressure. This time is about arriving, exploring, and finding what feels safe and meaningful for you.

Curious, reflective, entirely up to you

How We Begin

Want to check in beforehand?

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation before your first session so you can ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide if it feels like the right fit.
