Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get started?
It begins with a free 15-minute consultation where we can chat, ask questions, and see if it feels like the right fit. You can book a time online or get in touch directly.
  • What is art therapy?
Art therapy uses creative processes like drawing, painting, or sculpting to explore thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. It can offer insight, calm, and new ways to express things that may be hard to put into words. Sessions are supported by a qualified art therapist and shaped around your needs.
  • Do I need to be good at art?
Not at all! There’s no right or wrong way to make art here. Art therapy is about the process—not the final product—and you don’t need any experience to benefit from it.
  • Who is art therapy for?
Art therapy can be helpful for people of all ages. It can support emotional well-being, self-awareness, and personal reflection. Some people come with specific challenges in mind, while others simply want time and space to reconnect with themselves.
  • Where do sessions take place?
You can choose between in-studio sessions or at-home sessions (travel included within the Darebin area). We’ll discuss your preference during the free consultation.
  • What happens in a session?
Sessions begin with a gentle check-in, followed by time to work with creative materials. You might explore a theme, a feeling, or just see what emerges. There’s no pressure to talk or to create anything specific—it’s your space, and we go at your pace.
  • How long are sessions?
Individual sessions run for 90 minutes. This gives us time to settle in, create, and reflect without rushing. Group session lengths may vary and will be listed on each group’s page. Longer sessions are available on request.
  • How much does it cost?
Individual sessions are $150 for 90 minutes. Group fees vary depending on structure and materials. You can view current rates on the Fees page.
  • Is art therapy covered by private health insurance?
Some health funds may offer rebates for sessions with a registered therapist. Eligibility depends on your provider and policy, so it’s best to check directly. Invoices can be provided to support your claim.
  • Can I use NDIS funding?
Yes—FLUX supports self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. I can provide invoices directly to you or your plan manager.
  • Do you offer sessions for children and teens?
Yes! Sessions are tailored to suit the age and developmental stage of each young person. Art therapy can help children and teens express themselves, manage big feelings, and explore challenges in a safe and creative way.
  • Do parents attend sessions too?
In most cases, it’s best for children to attend art therapy independently. Having their own space allows them to explore thoughts, emotions, and creative processes in a way that feels private and safe. This helps build trust and encourages self-expression without pressure. I’m always happy to provide parents or caregivers with general feedback about how their child is engaging in the process, along with any areas where additional support might be helpful. While the content of sessions remains confidential, you’ll be included in the broader picture of your child’s support.
  • How do I book a session?
It starts with a free 15-minute phone consultation. You can book online or contact me directly to arrange a time. It’s a chance to ask questions and see if we’re the right fit.
  • What should I bring to my session?
All materials are provided, so you don’t need to bring anything. If you have a favourite medium or project you’d like to continue working on, you’re welcome to bring that along too.
